About the artist
In 2013 I rediscovered my love for drawing and painting. In particular the classical atelier movement has inspired me, in portraiture and still life painting. In 2017 I started painting in oils, This somehow felt like a second nature.
The slow drying time of the paint gives me all the time I need to create my paintings. layering, creating depth and using the transparency of the paint are aspects that fascinate me.
To me a propper painting can only come to life when the basics are there. Drawing is important. It gives me the opportunity to study my subject. Finding the important shapes and lines. It’s also a cheap and quick way to test if a composition works or not. In case of a portrait it also gives me the time to get to know someones facial characteristics. My aim is to bring aesthetics and stillness to the viewer. My work is created around three core elements. those are, time, space and light.
Key elements of my work
The subjects for my still life paintings are static, they don’t move. This means I can take all the time I want to study my subject. It gives me the ability to slow down. From the stillness within I find the clarity and focus that is needed to truly see my subject. In this way I am able to create a “timeless snapshot”.
A subject has three dimensions and has an immediate relation to its surroundings. How we perceive a subject can be hugely affected by the environment it is placed in. How much space does a subject take in relation to another? How do objects relate to one and other? This all influences composition.
Besides that we, as humans, prefer some laws like the golden ratio. this ratio can be found anywhere in nature. Using the golden ratio results in a more balanced composition.
First of all, we can’t live without light. It is a universal source of life. Light makes that we can perceive. I’m fascinated by things like incidence of light, luminosity. and color temperature in relation to my composition and use of light. All these factors are taken into account when it comes to creating a composition. These factors tremendously influence the emotional value of a painting.
Portraits have always fascinated me, and are the main reason why I paint and draw. Trying to grasp someone’s personality in a work fascinates me tremendously. The anatomy of the human face is equal yet different to every individual. using this knowledge makes it easier to create a portrait. it creates a more solid foundation. Lightning is of great importance in making a portrait. It gives depth and atmosphere to a painting.
Painting still life is a great way to paint from life. transforming a three dimensional object to a painting that has just two dimensions fascinates me. It is also a way to experiment with light, contrast and composition. It helped me tremendously in learning how to mix colors and creating a method in painting that works for me.
Another aspect I really like about still life painting is the fact that simple objects require a lot of attention to get them to look accurate and natural.
Mirroring Images 2021
I have a huge fascination for glass. The translucence and mirroring properties have captured my imagination. The idea for this series of work originated back in 2019 when I started with the still life painting of two wine glasses.
This series of paintings will look closer on alienation. The subjects might also apear to come lose off their surroundings. Using unusual perspectives and angles sometimes the object itself isn’t even directly recognizable. capturing the viewers imagination.
Intentions for 2021
I will continue my art endeavor. I’m currently working on two portraits and I am planning to do a few more this year.
Still life painting also continues. I’m currently working on a serie of paintings that look closer on alienation, the subjects appear to come lose off their surroundings. Using unusual perspectives and angles sometimes the object itself isn’t even directly recognizable.
On the technical site of things I’m aiming to loosen up a little in my work, trying to work less precise bringing a little more expression into the works.

Website & Store
The website will get a more international look and feel. I will slowley translate the website completely to English.
Last year I managed to set up my online store. The aim for this year is to improve the look and feel of the store and implement worldwide shipping and sales posibilities.
I’m slowley working my way to create video’s of my painting and drawing process. A big benefit for me is, that I’ve learned a lot about my own work process and how to improve it. I hope you will enjoy this to. Another benefit for me is that it gives me the opportunity to create more footage for Social media.
